The Food Brigade is pleased to welcome a new member to its Board of Trustees! Meet Douglas Herrick, of Maywood.
Doug is a state-registered real estate appraiser with The Herrick Group, LLC. A past Maywood borough councilman deeply committed to volunteerism, Doug established the Maywood Volunteer Advisory Board and currently serves as its President. He is passionate that "volunteering bridges the political, social, and racial divide. Volunteers are the backbone that builds stronger communities."
Doug's experience includes nearly a decade with the Bergen County Community Action Program (CAP), where he ran the homeless shelter, the HeadStart feeding program, and the S.P.I.C.E. program which taught people to work in commercial kitchens (Doug himself holds an AAS degree in Culinary Arts). He has also served as President of the Rotary Club of Maywood and is currently its Executive Secretary.
Most recently, Doug is a Class of 2021 graduate of the BergenLEADS program, which focused on the problem of food insecurity as its main project. "I will always be a passionate advocate for those who are affected by food insecurity", added Doug.
As a Food Brigade Board member, Doug will chair the Fundraising, Donor Relations, & Grants Procurement Committee. "Doug’s background, knowledge, experience, and abilities speak for themselves", said Karen DeMarco, President of The Food Brigade. "As a Board member, Doug will be a terrific asset to our organization and its operations."
